Description
(Mahnaz Afkhami, Sima Wali, Karima Bennoune, Afifa Arsanios, Mashuda Shefali)
This video is a compilation of footage from the NGO Forum of the landmark 1995 World Conference on Women in Beijing, China, taken by FemCom Bangladesh, a Bangladeshi women's rights organization. The first 19 minutes cover the Sisterhood is Global Institute (SIGI) panel Faith and Freedom: Women's Human Rights in the Muslim World. Mahnaz Afkhami introduces the panel by discussing a series of preparatory conferences leading up to Beijing that fostered the beginning of grassroots participation in human rights work. One of these gatherings also resulted in the publication of a book of the same title, Faith and Freedom.

The remainder of the footage covers the opening ceremonies of the conference, views of the village Huairou where the NGO Forum took place, and highlights of panel discussions on gender equality and development. The video focuses on the situation of women in Bangladesh and South Asian countries and the role of Bangaldeshi participants in the discussions.
