This audio recording includes the second part of a panel discussion from WLP's event, Leading to Choices: Women's Leadership and Institutional Change. This event was held in conjunction with International Advisory Council, in collaboration with the Kevorkian Center (NYU) and Johns Hopkins SAIS. The panel presents a basis for egalitarian leadership, and examines leadership structures from different perspectives and conceptualizations.
Ayesha Imam discusses the legacy of colonialism, and women's roles as being validated by traditional culture. She believes that culture should instead be viewed as dynamic. She describes the impact of Women's Learning Partnership participatory leadership training in Nigeria, and the success of case studies from other countries. She discusses the importance of breadth and diversity (vs monopoly) within globalization, and suggests that local culture should not be mere transalation of larger structures, but applicable, accessible, and reflective of their own identities.
Mahnaz Afkhami thanks speakers, explaining context of exploration of leadership training as carried out in Middle East and Africa.
