Women on the Frontlines of Climate Change: Reports from the Field and Strategies for Action Stockholm50 (video)
Description
(Musimbi Kanyoro, Nezha Belkachla, Julie Cissé, Andrea Romani)
Despite being disproportionately impacted by the climate crisis and excluded from decision-making, women on the frontlines of climate change are finding innovative ways to adapt and respond to the needs of their communities. To develop sustainable solutions to the crisis, the global community must recognize the decisive role of women in climate action. Women’s Learning Partnership and event co-sponsors convened women leaders to discuss the interconnected injustices facing women globally due to climate change. A panel of experts shared how women are leading initiatives to combat environmental degradation, advocating for policies to protect natural resources, and mobilizing a global movement for climate justice. Panelists shared how indigenous women in Morocco have secured land rights for women and how women in Brazil are leading efforts to protect the resources of the Amazon and create healthy communities in urban spaces. An activist from Senegal discussed how women leaders from across Africa are uniting to influence regional climate and land policies. Panelists shared strategies to connect women climate activists across borders and ensure the success of global climate action in building an equitable and sustainable future for all.
