Jacqueline Pitanguy, sociologist, political scientist,and Founder and Director of Cidadania, Estudo, Pesquisa, Informação e Ação (CEPIA) in Brazil, discusses dynamics of power structures (political, religious and social) in molding human security as a vulnerable concept related to individual exercise of human rights. She discusses development as a reflection of power structures.

Madhavi Sunder, leading scholar of law and culture, posits a clash of religion and human rights law, forming threats to human security.

Charlotte Bunch, feminist author and Founding Director of the Center for Women's Global Leadership, discusses approaches to human security through a lens of interpersonal violence, and cultures as based in violence, with violence against women at the deepest point.

Clash or Consensus? Gender and Human Security in a Globalized World was a conference convened by Women's Learning Partnership (WLP) and sponsored by the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at John Hopkins University to discuss improving human security through improving human rights in the Global South.
