Mahnaz Afkhami leads a group discussion with Jacqueline Pitanguy, Marian Edelman, and Zenebework Tadesse as leaders of prominent human rights and women's human rights organizations, on their experiences as leaders, and strategies for effective movement building. They discuss the merits of NGO vs. inside governmental roles in affecting change, development of allies, transnational coalition building. Ends with their observations on the important qualities of a successful leader.

This is the second part of a three-part series of interviews that took place at the Cosmos Club, Washington, DC, 2002, prior to a meeting of the Women's Learning Partnership (WLP) Board of Directors.

This interview took place on the same day as Zenebework Tadesse's speaking event at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars entitled Beyond the Magic Bullet: African Women and their Long and Complex Quest for Gender Justice.
